Remote sensing for precision agriculture
Overview
Using the SpecTerra DMSI multispectral sensor, Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. can provide plant cell density (PCD) data which shows plant health and vigour, enabling growers to target their resources and maximise their yield.
The technology we use has been supporting growers in Australia and overseas for over 10 years. Unlike our competitors, the SpecTerra sensor that we use has a long and proven track record.
Precision viticulture and split picking
Each summer, from November to February, Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. regularly undertakes a vast amount of airborne data acquisition in support of the precision viticulture industry. Our customers include some of the largest wine producers in Australia.
In 2010 Spatial Scientific teamed up with Richard Hamilton from Hamilton Viticulture and Bernd Kleinlagel from Advanced Technology Viticulture, to establish a new precision viticulture service company, specialising in split picking technology. If you would like to access this technology, please contact Richard Hamilton.
Broad acre agriculture
Throughout the year, Spatial Scientific acquires data for the broad-acre agriculture industry. As with the viticulture industry, airborne remotely sensed data enables precise targeting of resources, reducing costs for growers whilst maximising yields.
Airborne remote sensing technology has a long and proven track record in the broad-acre agriculture industry. The data is regularly used by growers across the whole Australian continent, from cotton growers in Queensland to wheat farmers in Western Australia.
Visualisation software: AVX
AVX is Spatial Scientific's flagship software for data visualisation. We strongly encourage users to purchase this software with their multispectral or thermal imagery. Designed to be run on a tablet PC, it enables users to display their imagery whilst in the field. The imagery can be annotated with points and polygons, which can then be exported as shape files. These files are compatible with many other geospatial/GIS software packages.
Full details of the AVX software, including the cost, and how to buy it, can be found on our software website. We can also lease the software to customers as part of a package which also includes hardware and image data.
Thermal imaging for fruit growers
Spatial Scientific is currently developing new tools to help fruit growers manage their water usage. Early studies have shown that airborne thermal imaging can be used to assess water stress in plants, enabling growers to target those plants that actually need watering, and reduce watering elsewhere.
