Remote sensing for environmental management
Overview
Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. has a range of sensors for supporting environmental managers, and assisting with short and long term environmental mapping and monitoring. We can supply geospatial data, vegetation health maps, biomass estimates and even detailed environmental reports. We work closely with environmental and forestry consultants, and as a result we can offer tailored end-to-end solutions.
Coastal mapping
Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. has significant experience in the field of coastal imaging applications. We have built imaging systems for very high resolution coastal mapping (resolutions down to 1cm), and we have conducted seagrass mapping flights using "water penetrating" imagery.
We have access to a range of sensors for coastal mapping applications, including: multispectral remote sensing, small and medium format aerial photography, and high definition airborne video. These sensors can be used for coastal habitat mapping, sub-surface imaging, environmental surveys and natural resource management.
Forestry
Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. has worked with the forestry industry for a number of years, mainly focussing on forest health through the use of the SpecTerra DMSI imaging sensor. This sensor has been widely used in the forestry sector in Australia, and therefore has a strong track record. Data from this sensor has been supplied to some of Australia's biggest forestry companies.
We are also currently in the process of developing new, cost-effective technologies for accurate biomass volume estimation, using an innovative combination of lidar and digital aerial photography. These technologies will enable forest managers to accurately measure the total volume of biomass, helping to determine accurate yield estimates.
Finally, Spatial Scientific can offer a "Rapid Response Mapping" service, where forest imagery (or any other imagery for that matter) can be acquired extremely rapidly, usually within 24 hours of the request for data. This data can be used for applications such as post-fire assessment.
Native vegetation
For many years, Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. has been acquiring airborne remotely sensed data for environmental and native vegetation mapping. We have developed and flown many different types of imaging sensors, although most of our native vegetation mapping is undertaken using the SpecTerra multispectral sensor.
We have worked closely with a range of state government departments across Australia, as well as university research groups and private companies.
