Remote sensing for the mining and resources sector

Overview

Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. works with leading mining companies throughout Australia. We have access to a range of technologies for mine mapping applications. We can undertake environmental mapping, sub-surface thermal imaging (hotspot detection), volumetric surveys, topographic mapping, 3-D terrain modeling and natural resource management.

For further details of our dedicated services for the mining and resources sector, please see our Mining flyer.

Environmental monitoring

Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. uses the state-of-the-art SpecTerra digital multispectral imaging system for all of its environmental monitoring work. SpecTerra imagery is unrivalled as a high-quality management tool for mapping and monitoring variations in vegetation status and health.

Specific applications include:

  • Automated identification of areas of interest, risk and sensitivity.
  • Monitoring temporal changes and trends in vegetation status.
  • Ongoing monitoring of proposed and established rehabilitation zones; from individual tree-level projects, to state-wide rail/road networks, water courses, riparian corridors and broad-scale management areas.
  • Effective reporting as part of an environmental management system framework.
  • Support ministerial conditions and audit schemes and maintain relevant certification.

All the major mining companies in Western Australia, and many other companies throughout the rest of Australia, are currently using SpecTerra data on a regular basis to support their environmental management programs. Please contact us for further information on how we can assist you.

Spontaneous combustion detection

Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. can undertake spontaneous combustion (SponCon) detection using the latest airborne thermal imaging technology. Our airborne thermal camera system can measure minute temperature changes at the surface caused by coal burning underground.

Our imaging system will not only detect new areas of spontaneous combustion, but also monitor changes to areas of known combustion.

Please contact us for further information.

Stockpile measurement

Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. has developed a new method for quick, accurate and cost-effective stockpile measurement. In fact, the technique that we propose is so innovative and competitive that in order to protect our intellectual property, we can't publish details on our website. However, we can confirm that we are able to measure coal stockpile volumes to an accuracy of better than 2%.

In addition to our new method of stockpile measurement, we continue to offer traditional stockpile measurement through the use of airborne lidar. Further information about lidar is available on our lidar website.

If you would like further details, please call or email us.

Thermal imaging systems

Spatial Scientific Pty. Ltd. has worked closely with FLIR Systems Australia to develop both airborne and ground-based thermal imaging systems. These systems have many applications in the mining and resources sector, including ground-based pipeline temperature monitoring and ground-based coal stockpile mapping. Our systems can automatically alert users when the temperature of equipment or plant goes out of range.

Through years of experience in system development and integration, we are ideally placed to design and develop customised thermal imaging solutions, whatever the application.

Visualisation software: AVX

AVX is Spatial Scientific's flagship software for data visualisation. We strongly encourage users to purchase this software with their multispectral or thermal imagery. Designed to be run on a tablet PC, it enables users to display their imagery whilst in the field. The imagery can be annotated with points and polygons, which can then be exported as shape files. These files are compatible with many other geospatial/GIS software packages.

Please contact us direct for full details of the AVX software, including the cost, and how to buy it. We can also lease the software to customers as part of a package which includes hardware and image data.
